  • How to make

1 tsp olive oil
½ very small onion
1 small carrot
90ml water
1 small potato
3 tbsp sweetcorn kernels from fresh or frozen cobs
½ tsp chopped fresh herbs such as basil, oregano or thyme

Step 1

Finely chop the onion and peel and finely chop the carrot and potato

Step 2

Heat the oil in a small pan over a medium heat

Step 3

Lightly fry the onion and carrot until soft, about 5 minutes

Step 4

Put half this mixture in a bowl and set to one side

Step 5

Add the water, potato and sweetcorn to the pan and stir to mix. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes

Step 6

Add the herbs, then puree or roughly mash the mixture before adding the reserved vegetables. Add extra water if a thinner consistency is preferred. You can puree this recipe down for younger babies and then serve as a side dish for the rest of the family

Recipe notes

Try experimenting with different herbs and spices to start gently introducing lots of exciting tastes and flavours. This is also a great alternative mash for the rest of the family, serve alongside some fish or meat. 

*The Department of Health and the World Health Organization recommend nothing but breastfeeding for the first 6 months of a baby's life. At around 6 months your baby may show signs that they're ready for solid food.
